The curators educators and museum educators from the sixteen museums and galleries of the City of Zagreb and the County of Zagreb and from the Croatian State Archives celebrated the International Museums Day this year by carrying out the educational program entitled Let's Get under Way.
Zagrebian museums have already established the tradition of celebrating International Museums Day by carrying out educational programs What Delighted Professor Baltazar in the Museum, in 1996, and Flower, in 1997, but now participated for the first time in an international action: the European educational action All Roads Lead to Rome.
Having joined in the action which had started in the beginning of 1997 only in February 1998, they had a lot of catching up to do, but were able to complete the entire program in the single three months. Each institution participating in Let's Get under Way made their own program. Individual contacts were made with high schools. With the intention to induce young people to participate as actively as possible, the project was centred on workshops, which resulted in excellent individual work later shown in the exhibition Let's Get under Way. The competitive element was partially preserved in the propositions requiring a visit to one institution and participation in its workshop. Nevertheless, the students often returned to the same workshop or participated in several of them. About 1700 students were involved in the program; most enthusiastic were the students of the Textile School of Varaždin, who visited all participating institutions.
Miljenko Gregl designed a poster and a ticket as a road map with the participant institutions along the roads. The poster was later taken as a model for the cover page of the common catalogue of the action All Roads Lead to Rome.
The exhibition of the best and most interesting works by students entitled Let's Get under Way was opened on the 18th of May in Zagreb City Museum.
The action was presented by an exhibition especially designed for the occasion at the closing celebrations of All Roads Lead to Rome in Rome.
